The storylines are becoming repetitive, superstars are leaving or being rapidly fired and the company is losing money due to the financial crisis.
Is there nothing to save the World Wrestling Entertainment?
Power to the People
Not so long ago, WWE created a new start-up video that airs before each of their shows. It shows various superstars from the past and present.
At the end of the video, the WWE logo appears and says "World Wrestling Entertainment". But it didn't always say that.
It once read "The Power is Back".
The saying has never made more sense than right now. The Power needs to go back to the people
The power, known globally as the "WWE Universe"
One Man
There is probably only one man, and one man alone that could help raise the WWE back to its peak.
That man, is The Rock.
The People's Champion
With one swift raise of his eyebrow, he electrified millions (and millions) of wrestling fans across the globe
The time has come for those fans to call on him again.
The Rock officially left WWE in 2003, after a match with Goldberg at Backlash.
After that match, The Rock went to film various movies, including Welcome to the Jungle & Walking Tall.
He made numerous cameos in 2004, whereby he helped the 2004 Diva Search Divas get rid of Jonathan Coachman, helped Eugene fight off Jonathan Coachman and helped Mick Foley fight against La Resistance and Evolution, which ultimate led them highlighting a 3 on 2 tag match at WrestleMania 20.
Hes now been away from the ring for 5 years. In that time The Rock has made a dozen or so movies.
Sure, they have been entertaining. But it will never be as entertaining as his performances in the wrestling ring.
A Working Story
A storyline that could benefit both the WWE and The Rock would have be drafted and laid out properly, before any plans to bring back The Rock were to be made.
One superstar that could help pull off the storyline would be Mr Kennedy
Mr Kennedy could proclaim that The Rock's "If Ya Smell" and Kennedy's "Mr Kenedy" wrap up catchphrases are too similar and Kennedy believes that seeing as The Rock has left, his phrase should be forgotten - just like The Rock has.
Kennedy could constantly rip on The Rock, telling people to eat pie, go and visit the "ancient landmark" or the SmackDown hotel and state that people have "Forgotten their role, and are opening their mouths".
Paving the way for the SmackDown
Vince McMahon once said in a 2002 promo for The Rock
"Rock, can you still "Bring It""
"I've got to wonder, Rock. Can you still, raise the People's Elbow"
"Tell me Rock, can you still lay the SmackDown? Can you do that Rock?"
One can only wonder if what Vince said is now true. Can The Rock still be as active as he once was?
To the public eye, The Rock looks as fit as ever. He's clearly kept up his muscle and remained active whilst being away from the ring.
But being fit is one thing. Being fit in the ring is completely different.
If Ya Smell...
The Rock is one of the most recognizable figures in both sports entertainment and the entertainment industry.
His catchphrases are world renown, most of which are still quoted in the wrestling industry today.
Luckily for the WWE, The Rock was available to induct his Father and semi-induct (along with his mother) his Grandfather in the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame.
Noted that during the induction The Rock pointed to his watch, whilst constantly looking at Shane McMahon. This could signify two things
The Rock was checking his time limit, or he was signifying that it is indeed time for his return.
The fans at the Hall of Fame, chanted "No more movies", "One more match" and "Austin Rocky".
It appears they've got The Rock's attention - and the McMahons are waiting to hear his reply.
Final Thoughts
The Rock would be the only one able enough to draw and put back enough revenue and interest into the company.
Here's hoping that we can all "Smell what The Rock Is Cookin'" - One more time.
